Fall Birthday Session

One of my favorite things as a photographer is working with families and clients over and over again- I love getting to know them and seeing everyone grow and change. The current photo session was to commemorate Nathan’s 1st birthday but I first met his family before he was even born. The first time I met the family was for a beautiful maternity session when mom, Sara, was pregnant with him. That session was so much fun with big-brother-to-be Evan: he was so proud that he was becoming a big brother! I also loved taking Nathan’s newborn photos at 8 days old and creating memories of their new family of four.

I was so excited to see the family again for Nathan’s first birthday- it really does remind me how time quickly passes when I see families for these important events. We chose to do photos at Crow Canyon Gardens in San Ramon. I love taking photos here because there are so many different types of locations in one small area. We were able to have photos in a wooded area, gardens, and a deck. Finding locations like this are a photographers dream because I’m able to give my clients many different looks from one session.

These photos were one-part family photos and one-part smash cake session- we had a lot of fun! Bringing out cakes with kiddo is always enjoyable, but this one was particularly cute. Often times kids will dig right in, but Nathan decided to have a chat with the cake first! It was so cute!! After the chatting was done, he was a bit slow to warm up so big brother Evan came in to show him how it’s done!

In addition to the setting giving great variety, they took photos in two outfits which really maximized our time together. Fall sessions like this are great because not only were we able to get milestone family photos to commemorate Nathan turning one, but also take photos for their holiday card. I love when we can get so many great options from one family session!
