Alamo Family Session at Home

When it comes to family photos, choosing a location can be a challenge. Many families want an outdoor session but depending on where you live and the time of year for your session, outdoor may not always be the best option. Parks, lakes, and other outdoor spaces do make for great photos, but indoor spaces can make for beautiful photos too.

Families often stress about deciding on the perfect location, but there are two things that can make or break the location you choose. 1) The time of day. If you take photos when lighting is harsh or non-existent, you risk having photos that are not vibrant. It is always best to use sunlight to separate your subject from their background which creates flattering images. This also helps to avoid grainy look to your images. 2) Your love. Any location will look amazing when you’re comfortable and able to connect with the others in the photo. Don’t stress about the location and focus more on who you’re with and what those people mean to you.

The Lin family wanted to do their photos at home and we were able to do a mix of indoor and outdoor photos. Both settings allowed for personal touches, such as taking photos in their playroom and on their bed, as well as photos of them walking outdoors along their fence and down their lane to an open field. Home photo sessions are often a great choice because not only are you capturing your family, but your home as well; if you move, you are able to look back at this moment in time in this location.

Home sessions also often allow for children to feel comfortable because they’re in their own environment. When they feel this way, we can capture genuine smiles and fun expressions in their natural environment, along with photos that are more posed. Kids grow up so fast and I love being able to capture what makes them unique and home photo sessions allow for this to happen. By taking photos at home children later will be able to look back at their family home they grew up in and further memorialize the time spent there.
